Mallorca In December
How’s the weather in Mallorca in December?
This is the first question everyone asks us when talking about a trip to Mallorca in December. The answer is: pretty great. Considering it’s winter in the northern hemisphere, you’ll find Mallorca to be sunny and pleasant.
We’ve had some of our most memorable months in Mallorca in December. Typically you’ll get a rainy period in October or November where it can really pour down. Then the sun will return in December. There are no guarantees of course but December can be really nice. You’re looking at an average low of 8 degrees celsius and a top of 16. Then you’ll get an average of 5 days precipitation. Not bad for winter!

Visit the Christmas Market at Puerto Portals
On December 14th, the cosy Christmas Market at Puerto Portals will kick off. Inspired by the traditional European markets, they have over forty charming wooden stalls. It's a delightful place to explore an array of high-quality products, including decorations, accessories, and wooden toys. Furthermore, you can grab a selection of seasonal, traditional foods to complete the festive experience.
Hit the rooftop bar at Hotel Almudaina
The Blue Sky Bar offers a stunning setting for guests to enjoy panoramic views of Palma and its surroundings. The main highlight of the rooftop bar is the breathtaking panoramic view of Palma, including sights of the historic Old Town, the Mediterranean Sea, and the cityscape. It’s also in the perfect location in the Palma’s shopping district so you can combine a day of strolling the streets with an afternoon cocktail on the rooftop.
Take a cold water swim at Cala Comtesa
Some people don’t like the cold water but we love it! The benefits that have become popularised by Wim Hof have only strengthened our belief in how good a dip in the cold water can be for your wellbeing. Cala Comtesa will be quiet in winter but if it’s a sunny day, it can be magic.
Get an infrared sauna & massage at HEAT by Sophia Lie
The treatments at HEAT by Sophie are a real luxury. So if you’re in town for the weekend or a vacation, just go for it. Their menu consist of massages, infrared sauna, cryotherapy and compression treatments. Its the perfect way to unwind after touring around Palma.
Have dinner at El Camino
El Camino is one of our favourite restaurants for a classic Mallorqin tapas style dinner in Palma. It’s perfect for a cosy winter night as well with its long, narrow seating along the bar where you can see the chefs working their magic in full view.
Stay at Hotel Hospes Maricel
There’s something very festive about Hotel Hospes Maricel in December. We’ve made it a tradition in recent years to spend a couple of nights there around Christmas. Prices are hugely discounted compared to summer. Its spectacular views out across the bay of Palma and you’re easily in and out of Palma in under 10 minutes.
Take a day trip to Soller and hike to Fornalutx
This is our favourite walk or hike on the entire island. Just a magical experience and if the weather is fine, you’re in for some of the most amazing visuals you can find anywhere in Europe. The below image is from a Sunday morning walk we took in December.
Tour a winery like Ses Talaioles
Mallorca has a more vibrant wine scene than most people are aware of. One of the best wineries we’ve had the pleasure of visiting is Ses Talaioles. It also gives you a great opportunity to explore the east coast of the island for a day.
Get a round of golf in at Son Muntaner
Son Muntaner is just 10 minutes from Palma and on a sunny day you can enjoy the beauty of this pristine course nearby the exclusive suburb of Son Vida. If you are a beginner, there is a 9 hole pitch and putt option next door also.
Play some padel at MegaSport
MegaSport is a huge gym with several outdoor padel courts to choose from. It is conveniently just 5 minutes outside Palma and for a very reasonable cost, you can get some lessons or just book in a time with friends year-round.
