Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?

My name is Patrick van Riemsdijk, a Dutch artist, but recently relocated to Mallorca where I opened my own Atelier & Gallery in Santa Catalina, Palma. Living on this beautiful island makes it so much easier to find happiness and lead a balanced life. The sun, nature and the slower pace of living are the true luxuries, which is reflected in my work as well.

My art shows a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary influences, capturing the essence of beauty and emotions through expressive techniques. Now, within the boundaries of my style, I try to experiment and search for new use of colors, materials and shapes. My work starts with colour, not with form.

Eventually I don’t make a painting, I capture a feeling, an energy. It’s me, my work and my own Atelier, and I love it.

Instagram worth following?

@Casaraak because of its unique style & a lot of beautiful furniture, but also @DustyDeco and @Durietzdesign are ones to follow. @Ceramicsmim for the best ceramics and of course my own account @patrickvanriemsdijk.

Favourite place to swim?

Platja de Formentor at 7AM or 9PM.

Favourite restaurant?

Great tapas at @toquedequedamallorca, but also @canatoneta for their unique dishes and excellent service.

Favourite bar, cafe or bakery?

@mestispalma in Santa Catalina, @Thomas_bakeshop for amazing bread and I often get a healthy and local produced lunch at @simplysonbraho.

Who is making a product we should know about?

The chocolate of Cachao_Chocolate and the croissants + cinnamon buns of @Fikafarinapalma, everything is so good over there. I get my coffee beans at @cafes_can_joan in the Mercat de Santa Catalina.

Best month of the year on Mallorca?

June and September, lovely temperatures and the island is busy, but not too busy.

What is your favourite town in Mallorca?

Alaro, a really nice small town with a lovely market on Saturdays. There’s also a charming cycling cafe called @cyclingplanet_mallorca

What is your favourite hotel on the island?

There are a lot of wonderful hotels, but @hotelcorazon just opened and it has blown my mind! You can truly feel the creativity and love they have put in this place, and besides that it’s a great spot for lunch and dinner with very healthy and home grown food by @grace_berrow

What is one other secret/great tip about Mallorca that you'd like to share with our readers?

Just start exploring, drive and wander around. I love to cycle and without planning I often come across small beautiful villages with local cafes and the most friendly people. Leave your phone on silent mode (or even at home), order an espresso and just take a seat and enjoy everything around you. Create little adventures and your own path, life is beautiful.
